It seems we can find out anything we want to these days. Just Google it, I say to myself, and very quickly I have the answer.

Just Google it I tell my friends, instead of trying to explain the route to my house in a new subdivision. Our street is not yet on printed maps, but Google maps has it.

Google the definition, I was reminded when trying to write a fable. Ah yes, that is the problem; what I had written was more like an allegory. With the definition in front of me I could chop, modify and rehash and a much better piece emerged; more concise with a better moral at the end.

We are blessed to have such knowledge at our fingertips. I have Googled Bible characters and places, books I want to know about, and subjects I want to research.

It seems there is nothing Google can’t tell me.

But in reality there is a lot that Google doesn’t know. Why does God love me? What was going through that person’s mind when he killed his wife? Why do nations fight each other? Where will you go when you die?

Our courtrooms try to find the truth about crimes and bring a just outcome. How do we know when the accused is lying? How do we know the truth? Often I find myself saying that only God knows the answer.

Many things happen in this life that seem unfair and just plain wrong. I think of the story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), such an example of unfairness in this life. But this story reminds me of an important fact, God will sort things out in the next life. He is the only just judge, he is the one who knows and judges our motives. He knows all things and will reward each person according to what he has done. (Matthew 16:27).

In all the things that googling can’t tell me, I can turn to God for his answers. He may not answer all my questions now, but it is clear that this life is an unfinished business. When we die the story goes on. Thank God that he is the one in control and I can safely trust my life to him, for now and eternity.
