TITLE: Time and Time Again | Previous Challenge Entry

Upon hearing their mother’s angry call, the girls came downstairs. They found themselves, once again the object of their mother’s temper which raged at the girls relentlessly. They responded as they normally did, one becoming defiant and one reduced to tears. Morgan could have calmly asked the girls to tidy up their things. She could have kept things in their proper perspective. Rather, as she had done time and time again, she unleashed all of her resentments, frustrations and bitterness that she felt about herself, onto her daughters.
“You girls are so lazy, why can’t you do a single, simple thing that I ask you to do. I am not your maid and I am tired of you two!”
The oldest grabbed her younger sisters hand and pulled her across the room, grabbed their coats and shouted back at their mother. “You’re tired of it, we’re tired of it, we didn't do anything to you and we don’t have to take this from you Mom!” They screamed and slammed the door behind them. Morgan heard the car drive off.
“Good, go”, Morgan shouted in the empty room, “Now, maybe I’ll have some peace for a change. These girls are so irresponsible, I've had it with them.” Morgan felt her heart pounding and her throat constricting.
Not long after, remorse for the words she had used set it as it had before, time and time again. Morgan wept and was ashamed. She prayed silently, she didn't know why she longed to be gentle, but continued to be quick to anger. She begged God for forgiveness as she cried. Through her tears, she heard the answer to her prayer; “I have forgiven you my child, and you must not be angry with your children, but forgive them, be patient, be kind, be understanding, keep no record of wrongs, as I have done for you.” Morgan knew she herself had behaved as a disobedient child. She also knew deep down in her heart that her temper was destroying her family life and she needed to make it right. How could she have been so harsh, saying things that she didn't mean, but gave voice to just the same.
Morgan wiped her tears as the phone began to ring. Her girls had been in an accident they had slid off of the slick snow covered road and into a guardrail. A neighbor had witnessed it and had phoned. "The ambulance is coming, you need to get here right away.” Panic and fear filled her as Morgan ran from the house and drove to the scene, now praying for her daughters safety. The words that she spoke to them repeating were repeating in her mind. How could she have said those things, it could be the last thing that she had ever said to them. When she arrived, she saw them, they were shaken, with minor injuries, but otherwise they were fine.
“Thank God, thank you God”, Morgan repeated.
“Oh Mom”, they cried as they hugged their mother, “We’re so sorry.”
“Girls, my girls, I’m the sorry one girls. Thank God you’re safe, please forgive me. I’m so sorry.”
“Us too Mom, we are too,” the girls said together. Morgan now found herself reconciled with Jennifer and Jill and reminded about what is truly important. She made a silent promise to value her children and the life that they shared, even with all of its imperfections. Mother and daughters embraced, sharing their love and forgiveness as they had done before, as God has done for them, time and time again.
