Dazzle her husband by lamplight at midnight
With arch of an eyebrow put a stop to a fight
Kiss sunflowers, hug old ladies, be still with God
Text like a teen, master any app on her iPod
Coax a smile from coldest of faces
Challenge her sons to impromptu footraces
Make home of a house, a mansion to dwell in
Rescue a kitten from the drainpipe it fell in
Cushion her couches with comfiest pillows
Shade garden walkways with weeping willows
Hang lace at a window to form light patterns
Be a friend to a harlot, mentor a slattern
Seek out the lonely, blot tears from sad faces
Climb canyon walls, hike high desert places
Build campfires in wilderness sans any matches
Pull fish from a river where not a soul catches
Brush in soft twilight by touches on canvas
Enter the sweepstakes, win the bonanzas
Cache hubby’s cash with an eye to the future
Give to the poor, with no bent to lecture
Plan a party from sickbed, down with the flu
Walk colicky baby, until two
Make savory soup with a few ingredients
Do whatever it takes to meet expedience
Fake a smile when her heart’s really not in it
Be decked out to dine and dance in a minute
Organize shoes, hats and handbags in closets
Given pencil and paper, anything: draw it
Launder linens so white no fuller could top her
Scrub out that pot; polish silver; shine copper
Handed a project, become a whirlwind of action
At church at the altar reconcile faction
Stop gossip and sniggers right in their tracks
Reassure girl friends she’s got their backs
Vanquish a blemish, using homespun cream
Make the seeming impossible, a possible dream
In short, a paragon of diverse delight
Passing strange, I'd call it: This Woman can’t
Diet.
