The years of time used to seem so slow
But the engine revved up when I blinked an eye
Like the wind in the willows those sweet days rushed by
Pieces of heaven in a child's pure love
A breath of God's bliss in a small warm hug
Day by day precious and true
Little moments of life that I've shared with you
Innocent kisses smacked on my face
Hand fulls of flowers tied with ribbons and lace
Notes of love written with crayons
Pictures of life drawn with tender small hands
Dancing and flipping like a circus star
Dressed in tutus and leotards
Begging with a child's earnest plea
“Mama, mama, please watch me”
Songs in the middle of a heart carefree
In the rainbow-floored bedroom where you sang them to me
Books and pages whispered quiet in the room
Sleepy eyes closing by the light of the moon
So where did she go, little girl that I knew
Why she followed God's plan and she grew and she grew
A time- worn trail marked with strength and grace
A grown-up woman took my little girl's place
