While someone else just smiled at an incoming text.
Still another tried hard to keep his eyes open while sitting perfectly still.
Directly in front of me a child was opening and closing her tic tac container, while her parents were loudly chewing gum.
Off to the side and across the way,
an old lady was holding tightly to the pink tissue in her hand.
Behind me there was incessant chatter and intermittent giggles,
and an over powering scent of flowery perfume.
A cell phone rang, albeit briefly, "I will always love you" in the distance before being turned off.
A child began crying about ten rows ahead of me while kicking her feet against the seat.
And two teenagers were saying, “shut-up” to one another during their
entire vivacious conversation about “gorgeous Tommy.”
Outside, fire engine company trucks zoomed by with sirens screeching,
While a dog “sang” in harmony, until a male voice shouted “quiet!”
Loud voices started from the back row and ugly threats came forward.
Two young men stood facing each other, each one glaring,
Then sat down as if nothing had happened.
A woman walking past me stopped short, as the contents of her purse spilled onto the ground, stooping down to retrieve her belongings.
A man helped gather her treasures as she mouthed “thank you,”
then sat down on the left side in the third row.
There was murmuring from various conversations reverberating throughout.
And constant rustling in the crowd, as the noise mingled with sounds from within and without.
All in all, there seemed to be "much ado about nothing" in particular.
Inconsequential happenings all around,
And people seemingly oblivious to their surroundings.
When suddenly, a deafening silence greeted us as people stood up in unison,
while the Praise and Worship team came out.
And, everything that was about “nothing” became “something."
We stood to worship our King of Kings,
to sing and praise our Lord, our God.
As harmony became apparent in all aspects while we gave honor to the most important of all.
We all began to sing, “How Great Is Our God.”
