The burly chap thumbed through brochures, checking out the tanned swimsuit clad bodies that frolicked on sandy beaches, while some of them sipped icy fruit drinks. Ben shivered with the thought.
Paws clasped the steaming mug of blackberry tea, as he looked at the small hairy gentleman thoughtfully; he had come to know through the years as friend.
Sips of the hot dark liquid warmed him as he glanced out a tiny frosted window. “That I have Phil, and I think we both know what we need to do.”
A nod followed in reply. “I hope you don’t mind but I already made tentative arrangements.” The spectacled little fellow said through slurps of grass soup. Ben shook his head and continued pouring over the inviting pamphlets.
In one an enormous castle stood strongly in the background while oversized headed characters danced and greeted children, while yet on another page silvery bottle nosed mammals swam and leapt in cerulean waters.
Phil slapped the table emphatically almost spilling his friend’s drink. “Then it’s decided, by next week this time it will be all behind us."
Ben cleared his throat and motioned at his friend’s mouth. Specks of dried tomato slid under Phil’s lip like the sun in an August sky. If only it would stay that warm. I’m ready for this change.
He closed his eyes but only for a minute. If I can just stay awake until our plane departs. By now I should already be snoozing.
“Most of the mid to eastern and northern parts will face what could be the snowstorm of the decade.” The radio crackled from a tree stump bringing the latest news.
Ben almost choked on his tea.
Phil quickly peered out the window. “Check out this.” “It’s not even January yet!” He ran a paw through thick fur.
Large snowflakes began to parachute downwards like thousands of miniature ivory paratroopers.
Ben yawned. “If it was I don’t think I’d still be conscious.”
“You better pack my friend. I think I have another call to make.” A small paw patted bulky shoulders.
Ben snorted. “Done, I travel light.” Phil just sighed as he reached for the phone.

If you look real close
in the crowd you'll see
a Florida bound guy
in sunglasses and tee
kind of small compared in size
to the hairy beast he walks beside
past security they both stroll
thinking this place is surely droll -- - ------------------------------ -- - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - -- -
A February sun melted the cubes that once floated in a glass of ice tea. Ben found himself also dissolving under the heat, as he exhaled any tensions he once had.
He adjusted his sunglasses. “I’m so glad we checked out. He continued, “Any news?”
The smaller Bermuda shorts clad chap cupped his cell phone against a furry chin. “Yes,” he nodded excitedly.
“It all should be happening soon.” He said between slurps of a frosty mango beverage.
Ben smiled wide. “I’d like to be there to see everyone’s face.” Phil laughed. “Me too.”

'bout hibernating"
“I wonder what folks will do
when they realize it's really true
an end has come to their folklores
while we sun bathe on Atlantic shores”

“A crowd’s gathered here,” the reporter announced, “awaiting the news.” “Will we face a longer winter or an early spring?"
A couple of paws appeared from the opening. Carefully a smirking ebony and white creature appeared, with tail drawn.
Later the paper read, “Skunk Day? This Stinks! Where’s Mr. Groundhog?”
