This unknown shepherd was first captured on video from a cell phone three days ago. His heroic deeds were then broadcasted on the internet and now David has become a YouTube sensation with millions of hits per day.
For those who have been in the dark for the past couple of days, let me fill you in on what has happened. It seems the Philistine army declared war on Israel quite some time ago. The battle stalled when the Philistines produced a giant named Goliath, who was over nine feet tall. The battle plan was simple. If an Israel soldier was willing to fight Goliath and kill him, the Philistine army would surrender. If Goliath came out the victor, Israel would belong to the Philistine's.
To make a long story short…David, a mere shepherd, was willing to go against Goliath. With only a sling shot and a stone, he was able to bring the giant down. David cut off Goliath's head using the giant's own sword.
I have here with me a young man, Josiah Rosenthal, who claims to be David's biggest fan. Josiah, you alone have already watched the video thousands of times. What's the big draw?
"It's so, like, way cool. Know what I mean? I like to watch the part where David cuts off Goliath's head. I watch it over and over."
There you have it…graphic, gory, dramatic, enough action to appeal to viewers of all ages.
We're outside the Knesset building where Israel's parliament is meeting with David. In a few minutes we hope to get a few words with David and Prime Minister Netanyahu, or President Peres.
It's unbelievable the coverage this young man has received in the past couple days. He went front being an unknown to a conquering hero. Millions of girls have his handsome picture posted on their cell phones. A Facebook page in his honor has accepted millions of friends, where he's received thousands of proposals from women across the expanse of the globe.
His tunes are the hottest IPod downloads. In less than twenty-four hours his rap song, "The Lord, The Lord, The Lord Is My Shepherd" is at the top of the charts. His more traditional songs, such as "The Earth Is the Lord's In All Its Fullness" are holding their own with the older generation.
We've never seen anything like this in a long time. It's as if there is a run on God right now. As you can see behind me, vendors have set up tables selling their David-ware. There's everything from slingshots to a Goliath who actually roars when he falls down. Everyone in Jerusalem is wearing a t-shirt with some kind of slogan on it.
There's been a massive move via emails to have David appointed to parliament. The Knesset's computers can't keep up with the throngs of messages they are receiving. Today, the Knesset…tomorrow who knows…the Presidency?
Of course, not everyone has rallied to the side of this young man. The Gentle Giants' Association has tweeted their membership, encouraging them to not jump aboard the bandwagon. It seems this incident with Goliath has given giants everywhere a bad name. As you can see, several protesters have placards across the street from where we're standing trying to restore their reputation.
Ladies and gentlemen, there seems to be commotion coming from the front of the parliament building. Yes, I see him! He's descending the steps now.
David, may we have a few words with you? What do you think of all that has happened to you? What do you have to say for yourself?
"Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered: Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; yes, let them rejoice exceedingly."*
There you have it, folks…one impassioned young man on fire for God. We send you back to your local broadcasting stations. Enemies of Israel take notice…this probably isn't the last you will hear from this young man.
