Why even try? It's too hard. Besides, you know you don't want to give me up. I give you the sense of control.

You're right. That's why you appealed to me - so I could control one thing in my life. Yet somehow I don't always feel in control, but rather that you're controlling me. On the other hand, when everything around me feels unsettled and unpredictable, you're always there. I feel so confused sometimes.

What about Me? I'm always here.

But when you say no to food, you are in control. And think of the power you feel when the number on the scale goes down. You need me.

I do need you, and I can't imagine my life without you, but I feel I can't say yes to food anymore. If all I can say is no, I'm not really choosing anymore. And that makes me feel powerless.

You have access to My power.

I'm such a large part of your life, though. You don't go for even a day without me. What would take my place?

You make a good point. The thought of my life without you frightens me. You occupy my thoughts and feelings all the time; you permeate my life. There would be a void without you, and I don't know what would fill it.

I am always with you.

Is it settled then? Are you going to keep me around? I hope we'll always be close.

Can you hear Me? If so, draw near to me so you can tune into My whispers of love and assurance.

Wait a second. Something's different. What was that?

I'm pleased that you are listening to Me. Unlike the other words you hear, Mine rise out of love and compassion, giving and power, mercy and patience, freedom and grace. When you feel out of control, reach for my steady and secure presence. When you feel bound to behaviors that harm you, access My power so you can choose what is best for you. When you feel afraid to be alone, walk in My love.

Is it really You? The other voice was so loud that I almost missed your whispers. But even in Your quiet voice, I feel more affection and concern than the shouts ever provided. I know now that I can choose which voice to listen to and which one to ignore.

Yes, you may choose. You can control which voice to listen to and to follow. As you choose, remember I am the source of everything you need, and I keep My promises. Please listen. I long to help you and be close to you.
