TITLE: On The Catwalk | Previous Challenge Entry

Our whiskered, furry friend,
Though splotchy brown-
Miss Gray she was,
Born of her stony blend.
Though wisdom sought to call her out
With pop-top can in tow,
The sound, the scent, the time ill spent-
All failed to bring Gray home.
Like any family member
Who'd been missing several days,
A hotline just for furry friends
Would minimize such craze.
Instead, into the darkest night-
With desperation mounting,
I called out in the silence…
First day one, then two and counting.
'Twas on day three-under the moon,
Whilst neighbors remained sleeping,
I sounded off in Gray Cat code
And she responded, weeping.
I peered below each vented house.
Sure that she'd hit resistance,
Although relieved; my kitty cat
Was not too far by distance.
I walked the road of idle threat
A two cell Mag in hand,
Perhaps it was Ryobi-
(disregard the flashlight brand).
I set my sights on finding her,
My ears on every cry.
Erroneous- I scanned the ground,
For Gray was in the sky!
Beams were redirected
As I closed in on our gap.
Just above; a power pole-
And on that pole, my cat!
My first thought was confusion,
How my precious kitty strayed-
Since roaming capabilities
Should be thwarted since she's spayed.
Yea, right.
Rejuvenation hit her
And Miss Gray began to walk,
Suspended lines of wire
Known as travel tele-talk.
I cringed before I turned away,
Gray's logic- long abated.
My presence made her courage strong,
Her patience- aggravated.
I left her on a two by four,
Until the morning light.
She cried out in her kitty call,
That lasted through the night.
My neighbors bound together.
Each had offered their backyard.
Who knew the help I needed,
Would be coming from afar.
For a ladder propped efficiently,
I'd spot behind a wall.
Just as my loving husband
Was prepared to risk a fall.
He took the borrowed ladder.
Less than 5, he rescued Gray.
I doubt our door will be ajar,
That she--again--will stray.

Very clever rhyming! I hope Miss Gray listens to her wise owners and stays inside next time. :)
