“Yes, but most of them seem to have good hearts and are seeking after the truth, even though it's staring them in the face.”
“Who do they think they are, sitting in judgement of the Holy Spirit's revelations, especially when they, along with all of mankind, are flawed?”
“The Lord's kind and I'm sure he'll guide their hand to the truth that they're seeking to understand.”
“I'm not so sure they'll ever understand, the rabble are already arguing that their own wrong interpretations are right – what do you say about that brother?” Michael raised his eyebrows.
“Let's just give them the benefit of our doubts – and see how things go.” Gabriel smiled at his brother angel.
“Just look at those two – physically fighting over whether or not the eternal Son of God is eternal or not. Wow, that was a mighty swipe from Bishop Nicholas – that silenced Arius. I can't understand why these ignoramuses are being allowed to stand in judgement of the Word of God – can you?”
“Remember the Holy Spirit inspired imperfect humans to write it, maybe they will also get a dose of that inspiration to judge it and put the Church on the right track for generations. If we put our eternity cap on we could see what happened.”
“No, this is fun seeing them struggle and that's what they deserve, really. I'd like to see how those two ended up though – shall we just put our caps on and have a quick peek?”
“That's just like you, being our Warrior Angel, wanting to see how the fighters' lives ended up. I suppose I'm curious too.”
Arius was exiled for his false doctrine of the divinity of Jesus and eventually had an horrendous demise according to the historians. It started with a stomach ache and ended up with his bowels gushing out with blood flowing and creating a painful death.
Nicholas in contrast got a pat on the back from most of the bishops and was canonised to become Saint Nicholas who then became the renowned Santa Clause. Later he became famous for rescuing three innocent people from being wrongly beheaded. He died a normal death which was unrecorded to the world.
“Mmm, so they'd be waving the flags for the disappearance of Arius from this earth. These humans can be quite callous and this lot call themselves Christians too. Shall we clear off, they're getting up my nose with their misled high and mighty ways?”
“No, hang on a minute - it doesn't seem like that with Saint Nicholas, he's a good man and we've seen he has an influential life and I prophesy that later he will become known as a generous saint. I think some good might come out of this great meeting of bishops.”
“Oh yes, and I prophesy that the idea of a Father Christmas will do more seasonal damage to the Gospel of our Lord than any thing else. So what do you say of that?”
“Yes, you might be right but it may also become a season for children and gift giving in remembrance of Nicholas.”
“That puts our Lord right out of the picture, doesn't it?”
“Please let's stay and see how it all ends up. I'm sure the Lord will bring some good out of all this.” Gabriel's eyes pleaded.
“What are they up to now - trying to create some extension to the true Written Word of our Lord? They'll never learn that it's not possible to improve on what our God reveals – you know that from our brothers fall, don't you?”
“Please, don't remind me of that. I pray our Good Lord will help this band of helpless people to come to some conclusion that will help. Maybe that document they are holding in their hands which they are calling the 'Nicene Creed' will stand them in good stead.”
“Oh please! I'm clearing off to see what our fallen brother is getting up to.”
