“You ok, baby?” He asked.
“Yeah, I just need to write. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“I’m not really awake.”
“Ok, then. Roll back over, sleepyhead.”
I walked out of the bedroom as he drifted back to sleep.
I turned on the lamp in the living room and took a seat at my writing table. I opened my journal, turned on my laptop and wrote until the sun came up. The beautiful sunrise was my signal that it was time to get ready for work.
I had several back-to-back meetings that day and the morning flew by. I walked back to my desk in time to hear my cell phone ringing.
“Hi, mom,” I said.
“Hi, baby. Did you tell Gertrude about your book?” She asked.
“No. It’s not finished yet,” I said.
“Well she claimed that the story is based on her life.”
“Mom, how did she even know I was writing a book?”
“Well, I may have mentioned that, but I didn’t give her any specific details. I bet you didn’t know that she. . .”
“Mom, I’m meeting Janet for lunch in ten minutes. Can I call you later?”
“Your father and I are heading up to the lake . . . as soon as he gets out the bathroom . . . have mercy! Why don’t you and Bill stop by the house on Sunday and I’ll cook dinner?”
“Ok.”
“Speaking of Sunday, you should give a copy of your book to Pastor . . .”
“Mom . . .”
“Ok, I’m going. I love you baby.”
“I love you too. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Janet was seated at a booth when I arrived. Thankfully, I gave her my lunch order before I left the office.
“How’s the book coming along?” She asked.
“I’m almost finished,” I said.
“Girl, I really can’t wait to read it. Sounds like you’ll be busy this weekend.”
“You’re right about that. Let’s eat.”
We had a great lunch and I headed back to work. I was out the door at five o’clock and thirty minutes later, I was back home. I checked the answering service and heard a message from my fantastic editor, Pamela Jones.
“Lisa, I love this story! I have some questions on the dialogue. Please call me tonight,” she said.
Bill arrived shortly after I hung up the phone.
“Hi honey,” I said giving him a big hug.
“What’s up, buttercup?” He asked.
“Pamela had a few questions on the book so I need to make a few more changes tonight.”
“Great. That’s why I got dinner.”
After dinner, I went back to work in the living room. I sent my revisions to Pamela and a few minutes later, I received an email response.
“Pam loves the book. She knows an agent from college and wants to send her a copy of the book when we have a final manuscript.”
My husband walked in from the kitchen with a large smile that gave me tingles all the way down my back.
“That’s great. You’re a wonderful writer. You deserve it . . . and now you deserve a back massage.”
I’m so glad that I married this man.
“No more writing tonight,” I said.
I flipped the laptop closed and followed him into the bedroom.
About three in the morning, I crept out of bed with my journal. As usual, Bill turned over and faced my direction.
“I’m just going to write for a little while. I’ll be back in a few hours,” I whispered.
“Umm-Hmm,” he moaned.
I wrote for two hours and after a few yawns, I didn’t want to write another word. When I returned to bed, Bill held me in his arms. I felt loved, safe, and downright sexy as we dozed into a blissful sleep.
I am completely in love with my husband, and as a bonus, he gives me the inspiration to write those romantic stories.
