Topic: The Critique/Review (for writers) (05/06/10)
I sit at my old computer,
and type out a line or two.
Then I hit the backspace button,
and start on this poem anew.

I look into the book of thesaurus,
to find a word that will brightly shine.
Then I enter it into this telling poem,
but still can’t make it rhyme.

I read the Bible for inspiration,
until I find a stirring verse.
Then I inserted it on my poetry page,
but it only makes the rhyming worse.

I think about the day before me,
the beauty of God is all around.
Then I carve a picture with my words,
but the timing needs to be whittled down.

I thought about the night before,
and I wrote about that one falling star.
Then it looked like this poem came alive,
but the meter seemed like a sleeping car.

I go online to the rhyming site,
and look to see what words will match.
Then it searches for all the variations,
but there are no rhymes for me to hatch.

I try to come up with the correct form,
and I think and think and think.
Then I put my thoughts down on paper,
but me thinks this poem will stink.

I am my own worst foe and critic,
and I need a poetry trouble shooter.
I know the reason I can’t find any rhymes,
is that there are none left in this computer!

HaHa! I know what it's like to be my own worst critic. ;) But despite my doubts, I've learned to keep working on stuff even when I think it stinks, and sometimes it turns out to be something that everyone (or most everyone) likes!

Like this poem for instance. . . great rhyme and meter throughout! And it perfectly portrays the frustration that comes when a writer just can't find the right words.

So in summary . . . great job on this non-stinky poem! ;)
