For example, my sixteen year old son needed a notarized form and my presence, along with my identification in order to have a type of earring jammed thru the upper part of his ear. (He removed it a few months later on his own!) Yet my fourteen year old daughter can go to a well-known clinic and obtain birth control, or even have an abortion performed, not only without my presence or permission, but without me ever being informed. One can only say, “Huh?”
In response to Tiger Wood’s recent public and personal fall from grace, a famous activist berated him, NOT for his infidelity, or for patronizing prostitutes, but for being disloyal to his race. He stated (paraphrasing) that if Tiger were going to engage in such behavior, it should have been with African American women, not white women! One can only say, “Huh?”
On the news this morning was a homeowner representing eighty-plus other homeowners. These people are in danger of being forced out of their homes, as it’s been discovered that a certain endangered beetle, (yes, a BEETLE), has set up residence in this area. One can only say, “Huh?”
In our community, if more than two inches of snow is expected, cars may not be parked on the street overnight. Flyers are placed on cars directing them to use the local municipal parking lot if necessary. Having recently bought his first car, our son’s vehicle is the third in our family and doesn’t fit in the driveway. During a recent heavy snow, he made use of the public lot. Late the following day, he was flabbergasted to find his (and many others’) car half-buried in the parking lot! Apparently, it‘s park at your own risk--it was days before the lot was cleared professionally. (Of course he expected to dig out his own car, but not the driving areas of the parking lot). One can only say, “Huh?”
There are many things in this life which cause us to stop and say, “Huh?” At some point, we as a society have to say, "Enough!" Enough of the foolishness that the situations above describe. I'm so thankful that the Word of God continually steers us back toward seeking wisdom! Maybe if enough people speak up, we can begin to say, "Some common sense, people?"
