As each has given up the fight,
Accepting death as winter knocks,
Allowing him to snuff their life...
But in the flames a light still gleams—
God’s promises are evergreen…
The dying leaves are swirling ’round,
The ashes of a brilliant flame;
The claws of winter grab at me
Embracing me with bitter pain…
But in the ash a light still gleams—
God’s promises are evergreen…
Now flakes of white come fluttering down
To bury me in a grave of cold;
But I will not give way a step,
I still refuse to lose my hold…
’Cause in the white a light still gleams—
God’s promises are evergreen…
When all the trials are finally past,
And death has finally been subdued,
The green I’ve held will spread its wings,
And all the world will share its hue…
Each promise now fulfilled is seen,
And all is overcome by green.
