You come here alone, into the deep, lush hollows ordained as nursery of flesh and blood. You reign here, maker of all place and circumstance, denying natural light but bestowing celestial power. You move here, drawing apart the veil, crossing into the finite. The time of decision comes, and you have already chosen. This moment belongs only to you; your hand is poised.
The book stands open, but you do not consult it. Your next act here has always existed. You already hear all my words, see when I sit and rise, when I go out and come in. I cannot escape, nor am I meant to do so. I dwell hidden in your promise, foreknown in your reflection, and in this exact time and place determined for all my awakenings, your hand falls.
Darkness flies away at your stroke; I know dawn in the hollow of your hand. The gift passes to me from your fingers as you assemble my corporeal being from both heavens and depths. All my days, your plans for me, and my very frame you cast up from your thoughts and illumine in my formless body. In you, with you, from you, I live.
I know you all around, hot light in darkness that closed eyes do not see, the shadow of your wings. You knit me together, always yours, fast in your right hand. Vast and precious, you hem me in, but slowly, slowly, your fingers open. You withdraw from my fallen flesh, but hide your light deep inside, a seed waiting to open. Fear and wonder rush in. I gulp my first air, open my mouth, and cry. Where are you? You wait, knowing.
