thirty years on earth.
Her childishness belies the fact
regardless of her birth.
Folks shake their heads in sympathy
when I say “Meg is fine.”
Her smile lights up with happiness,
forever-child of mine.
Meggie isn’t much for words
but loves it when I sing.
She dances to all music played
and laughs when church bells ring.
In all the fun and games we share,
my daughter takes delight.
From growing tadpoles into frogs
to pillow wars at night.
We play outdoors in summertime
and daydream by the brook.
She catches crawdads under rocks
and sunfish on a hook.
Winter means sled rides and skates
or angel art in snow.
We top off Frosty with a hat,
expecting him to go.
When weather forces us inside
my Meg shows no dismay.
Her dominoes all in a row,
she topples storms away.
Hand puppet shadows on the wall,
houses made from boxes.
Special artwork for the fridge
of kitties, trees, and foxes.
Meggie’s innocence will last
through this life and beyond.
I thank The Lord for His love gift,
and mother-daughter bond.
“Adulthood” means maturity-
a seasoned, grown-up stage.
But must it mean repression
of the fun from early age?
Is it sometimes a point of view,
or always counted days?
Frequently I envy Meg
her grownup childish ways.
