When once they shared camaraderie,
A bludgeoned heart takes time to heal
From rock hard words that cut like steel.
And while the rocks embedded deep
Keep all love out and rob of sleep,
The sister with the poison tongue
Holds on to grudges--old and young.
She’s in the right her mind insists,
Her logic says she must resist
Attempts that may suggest she’s weak
If softer words she chose to speak.
And so from days the weeks did grow,
The sisters attempted not to know
The hurt within each others core--
And so the wounds just festered more.
Daily their mother prayed with trust
“Soften their hearts God, please You must.”
But weeks and months turned into years
“Please answer me, God don’t you hear?”
Their mother prayed with broken heart
Her family sadly torn apart,
But pray she did until she died,
At her funeral, two sisters cried.
Their silence over time had stolen
Friendships that could have been golden,
The younger sister made the plea,
“It’s time to forgive, do you agree?”
“So many things we should’ve shared
If only one of us had dared
To speak with love way back when,
Do you think we can begin again?”
The older sister’s head did nod,
A mother’s prayer answered by God.
They sobbed for years that had been spent,
And hardened hearts of discontent.
“Forgive us Lord, this awful debt”--
Embracing now, the sisters wept.
And as the sunlight softly faded
New sisterhood was celebrated.
Ephesians 4:26 In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. (NIV)
