Leafless trees stand stark and bare,
Cold winter days keeps growth at bay
Save pine trees here and there.
Below the snow, what waits to grow
When the thaw of Spring comes ‘round?
Seeds nestle deep, all fast asleep
‘Till the hot sun warms the ground.
Then enters Spring and everything
Seems to burst forth from earth’s womb;
The snows have run far from the sun,
Trees and flowers bud and bloom.
Now frost-free lands in fashions grand
Are bedecked in fresh attire,
The seeds that slept in snow-clad earth
New-found elegance acquire.
I see my soul, long dead and cold,
Unresponsive to God’s Word,
But He revealed His truth to me
And new life within me stirred.
Just as the snow hid life below
Which sun warmth germinated
God, by His grace supplied me faith—
I was regenerated.
I scatter seed as I proceed
Through all life’s cold dark places—
It takes effect in hidden depths
Though I might see no traces.
‘Neath snow and frost the seed’s not lost;
None can subdue the gospel.
Though hot and cold will come and go,
In time a crop will prosper.
