Remembered by the multitude,
But each, in all his glory,
Cannot begin to measure you…
Across the lifetime of a nation
You’ve guarded her against the sea—
Defending daily every man,
Supporting every hero’s deed…
Complaining not, you’ve kept the gates
Though you heard not their tender praise—
For in their hearts they knew ’twas you
Who saved their homes through every day…
And when they raised the cry for freedom
It was your blood that gave them life,
To bring the sea in as an ally
And help them win their honest fight…
And when you rose again to see
The men you loved rise up to fame,
You stood your post without a word
With pride you watched them win acclaim…
Today you still are guarding them,
And hold your post against the sea—
Defending daily every man,
Supporting every hero’s deed…

A thought--what if you made the dikes into a metaphor for something else that protects? And the spelling should be 'dikes'--it's a significant difference.
I enjoyed the poetic skills here--a well-constructed poem that was a pleasure to read.
My red ink, at risk of sounding like a scratched CD, is that the meter could use a little tweaking.
Your use of slant rhyme was well executed.
