The angry words were spat venomously at Nancy by the daughter who remained with her, but from time to time made her leave the house when she wanted to entertain her friends of the drug culture. She had taken over the whole house and left Nancy only her bedroom, and even that had to be vacated at Christine’s pleasure.
The story was that Cocky had got away when Nancy opened the door one day. It was Christine’s pet galah, not that you’d know it as Nancy did all the care-taking. She is a woman of faith, and even this intimidating daughter can’t bully the faith out of her. She’d put the sheet over the cage and for two days the daughter had not missed the bird, but finally Nancy had had to tell her it was missing, and how it had happened. Hence the angry words – well Christine’s words were normally angry anyway – this time just a bit more so.
So Nancy spoke to the Lord about Cocky, and asked for his return. She put notices everywhere, all over town, and two women rang to advise her of a sighting – both in the same area. Nancy carried the cage a couple of kilometers to the spot, and sure enough, there sat the bedraggled pink and grey galah, high up on the telephone wires, alone and sorry for himself. The days of freedom had not improved his looks! It was a miracle that she’d found him, but how to get him down and into the cage?
The Lord is with you, mighty warrior!
“Cocky, I command you in the Name of Jesus, come down here and get in this cage.”
Down flew the cockatoo, landed on the cage, bent down and straggled his way right in through the open door and tucked greedily into the food placed there for him. He hadn’t known how to feed in the wild.
“Thank you Father.” Nancy, delighted, snapped the door shut and took him home.
“You told me to ask God to help get him back,” she told her daughter. “I did. Here he is, home for Christmas.”
But in her heart, Nancy is asking God that her daughter be the one to come Home for Christmas. If you believe in miracles, please pray for Christine this year. Her seat at the Lord’s table of abundance is empty, waiting to be filled.
This is a true story. It happened this week. The mother’s name has been changed.
