“Frank, why do you always have to take the easy way out?”
“It’s business, buddy.”
“What ever happened to the personal touch?”
“Who can afford the time these days? Have you paid attention to the economy? If I gallivant off across to who knows where I could be in the poor house by the time I get back. Ain’t no government bail-outs coming my way.”
“But you’ve been waiting for this moment for years. You said it yourself. ‘ A star is born’. ‘This is a once in a lifetime event’. ‘I’m packed and ready to go’.”
“Things change. Times change. In the old days we didn’t have the technology to send a gift like this.”
“But Frank. What about the wonder, the experience, the story you’ll be able to tell your grand kids?”
“Take some pictures. Why keep it to ourselves? Put it on U tube. This is a gift for the world.”
“Frank, I don’t feel right about this. Where’s a baby going to exchange an e gift card for a jar of Myrhh?”
“Don’t worry about it, man. It’s the thought that counts. The kid’s parents can find someone. Besides, the kid probably won’ t need it ‘til he grows up anyway.”
“How are they going to know the card’s good for anything?”
“The card’s good. I used my gold card to pay for it. Will you quit worrying? A gift’s a gift. Who care’s what it looks like?”
“Frank, you know I’m your best friend. Sometimes I just think your priorities get mixed up. You get so busy you can’t even see what’s important anymore.”
“You know, I’ve just about had it with this guilt tripping. You can spend your life chasing your dreams all you want. I’ve put out some solid gold on this venture and if you’re not happy with that you’ll have to find some other friend who’ll put their neck on the line for a book of old promises.”
“But Frank. You know you saw the signs as clear as I did. You told me yourself you were sure the Almighty was calling you in your dreams. Why should a little bump in the economy collapse all your dreams? Why are you afraid the world can’t hold together without your control for a while?”
“That does it. GET OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW!”
“Okay, Frank, I’m going. Do you want me to drop off that Myrrh-E card?”
“ARE YOU DEAF? I SAID GET OUT.”
“Okay, Frank. Do you want me to tell him you’re happy he’s here? After all, you’ve been waiting so long.”
“IT’S A BABY. WHY WOULD HE CARE HOW LONG I’VE BEEN WAITING? Tell him I’ll see him when he grows up. Here, tell him he can personally bring me the Mryhh-E card and I’ll have a jar waiting for him right here.”
“Frank, I’ve never gone on such a long trip by myself before.”
“I’m sure someone else out there has got the same notion as you. It’s the perfect time of year for a trip. Who knows who you’ll meet?”
“Do you think I’ll run into any political trouble?”
“No matter where you go these days the politics get in the way. Just find out whoever’s in charge and tell them what you know. Everyone loves to be first in line to see the new star.”
“I hope there’s some fast food falafel shops along the way.”
“Buddy, you know commercialism this time of year. There are franchises popping up all over.”
“Frank, I hope I’ve packed enough.”
“You’re lucky I didn’t give you the whole jar of Myrrh. That e gift card will be light weight and easy to hand over.”
“What if I lose it?”
“How can you lose an e card? If you get ambushed by bandits they’ll go for your gold. By the time you get there my Myrrh-E card may be the only gift you’ve got to give.”
“I’m so glad you’re always thinking of me, Frank. I just wish you were coming.”
“Put it this way, Pal. There isn’t a soul in the history of the world who will know or care whether I show up or not. There’s not a person alive who will care what I send half way across the world for someone I don’t even know.”
“Forgive me, Frank. But somehow, I feel different about this one. The star's moving on. See you in the his-story books. Keep your card.”
