announcing, proclaiming, rejoicing,
lighthearted or serious,
elaborate or simple,
make me laugh, make me cry,
filled with news,
or a few succinct lines,
given as reminders:
I’m thinking about you,
Merry Christmas, with love.
Holy birth announcements,
songs of love and joy,
angel voices rejoicing:
Good News! Glad Tidings!
The Savior is Born!
Love has reached down
to embrace the world.
Joy and gladness fill
empty hearts.
Heralds of peace
proclaiming
to a hectic, discordant world:
the Prince of Peace is now here!
Wolves and sheep
will live together in peace;
instruments of destruction
will become
instruments of building.
Nations and neighbors will no longer fight.
Messages of hope and comfort:
Emmanuel, God is with us,
a light to our darkness,
justice for the nations,
rest for the weary,
He rules with truth and grace.
Visions of sugar plums,
childhood fantasies,
white Christmases,
Santa and reindeer,
presents under the tree,
stockings hung by the chimney,
gluey, misspelled creations
made by cherubic hands,
I Love You Mommy.
Love letters, sweet memories,
poignant reminders
of how quickly time passes;
children growing,
loved ones now gone,
births, deaths, weddings, graduations,
joys and sorrows,
memories of a year past,
a scrapbook of family and friends.
Starlight, star bright
silent night, holy night,
shepherds kneel in worship,
wisemen with gifts come seeking,
a father in wonder and awe
trembles at the responsibility,
a mother with star-filled eyes of love
ponders the meaning,
a Father with pride and bittersweet joy
looks down from above,
a King is born.
