Only a few months old, you don’t understand what is going on. We moved across the country just this week. I wanted your first Christmas to be special. Memorable.
All these boxes fill our living room and there is no way I’ll be able to take care of an infant and unpack enough boxes to make room for a tree. What is Christmas without a tree?
I hope you don’t mind, or perhaps you won’t remember, but I’m just going to ‘draw’ a tree on the wall. Green garland will outline it and red garland will criss-cross it.
Did I really write those things? Did I really DO that? I did. I even had the picture to prove it. What a sad, pathetic ‘tree’.
As my precious baby grew through the years into a fine young man, we had actual Christmas trees. However I hope I taught him that it’s not the tree that makes Christmas. I pray he understands the real reason for the season. I’m sure he does. One family Christmas tradition that we observed every year was the reading of the birth of Christ from the book of Luke as we gathered as a family in front of the tree.
He and his beautiful new bride will celebrate their first Christmas together this year. I can’t wait to see what their ‘first’ tree looks like.
