Jesus appeared. The moment had come. A group of demons surrounded Him, “bow down to Satan and worship him” they commanded. Jesus stood tall. Not moving an inch.“What nonsense!” said one of them and raised his hand to give Jesus a dirty slap but he was sent to the floor by just one blow on the head from Jesus.
Just then, Abraham who was watching from his own side of Hades separated by a great gulf stood up with great joy. “Isaac…! Jacob… David… Aaron….Joseph…Deborah…Rebecca…! He called. “There’s something going on today on the other side. Come, see.” As he called, great men and women of faith who faithfully served the Most High God on earth gathered to see what was going on between Jesus and the demons.
“You’re meant to bow down, you’re in my territory” they heard Satan cry as he moved backwards while Jesus moved towards him. He looked fearfully all around him and saw that all his demons were on the floor. There was no one to help him now and no one could really help him. As he moved backwards he fell down. Jesus put His feet on Satan’s neck and took the keys he placed round his waist. Satan groaned in agony. Looking down at him, Jesus said “Bow down to you? What sort of a joke is that? Does anyone bow down to nothing? That’s what you are, you’re nothing and you just got promoted in your nothingness, you’re now a defeated nothing.”
“No…no….” Satan cried. He didn’t want to say it but he knew he couldn’t stop himself from saying it. Much to his chagrin, the words came out. “You are…you are…LORD!”
The great cloud of witnesses on the other side jumped for joy at the sight and congratulated one another, now they would go to be with the Father. They shouted in victory and Jesus looked towards them and smiled, showing them the keys. Their shout became louder.
Meanwhile, Mary Magdalene had cried her eyes out, “where have they taken my Lord’s body? she wondered, after having seen that His tomb was empty. What will happen now? The more she thought of it, the more she cried. On her way, she saw another man behind her. “Why are you crying? Who are you looking for?” he asked her. Suspecting that the man was the gardener for the graveyard, she curtly answered him over her shoulder. “Just tell me where you kept His body so I can take Him away with me. His reply was her name.
“Mary.” Only one person could call her name that way with so much love. She turned and it was as she thought. Jesus stood before her alive and well. She wanted to hug, cry, laugh, rejoice and kiss His feet all at the same time but He stopped her from touching Him. Instead He told her “don’t touch me for I haven’t ascended to the Father yet but go and say to my brethren, I ascend to my Father, and your Father, to my God and your God. She went her way rejoicing and many equally rejoice today because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
