The next time that we meet
I’ll answer all his questions
And it will be so sweet:
He’ll pray the prayer of sinners
He’ll come to church with me
But for today I think I’ll just
Stay here, and watch TV
I’ll pray with her tomorrow
Her place is on my way
She’s been so sick and lonely
She needs a friend, today
I know she can’t do housework
She needs a helping hand
But now I’m going dancing
And she will understand
I’ll volunteer next Friday;
The food pantry is bare
I know we need to stock the shelves
To show those folks we care
They need our help with groceries
We’re taught to help the poor
But for today I really need
To hit the record store
I’ll read the Word at bedtime.
I’m five chapters behind
My goals for Bible reading
And lately, now, I find
I don’t feel close to Jesus
I don’t feel peace, of late
But my friend Gina’s calling
So, it will have to wait
What if tomorrow it’s too late
And my friend will not heed?
What if my friend is dying
And cries out, in her need?
What if some family goes without
And turns away from Hope?
What if my Bible’s on my shelf
And I can’t seem to cope?
At least my good intentions
Should show what’s in my heart
God knows that I had honest aims;
He knows I’ll do my part
When He calls next, I’ll follow Him
I’ll hasten to do right
What’s that? My turn to clean the church?
Perhaps another night…
