Topic: Write in the POETRY genre (05/17/07)
I’ve lived it up both day and night
And yet find mem’ries haunting me,
Think back to Dad and how I left.
I wonder if he thinks of me.

My money’s gone and food is scarce -
With gorgeous women used to dine.
How much my life has changed since then,
I now share all my meals with swine.

No longer worthy of Dad’s love,
And know that I will never be.
Perhaps, though, I could work for him.
I wonder if he thinks of me.

I never knew my love for him
Until the time I’ve spent apart.
I long for opportunity
To share respect that’s in my heart.


I can’t believe my son has left,
My aching heart can barely beat.
I long for his return and yet
I wonder if he thinks of me.

Each morning when I go outside,
I hold out hope this is the day
I’ll see my boy returning home.
I long for him to find his way.

He never knew my love for him,
I long for opportunity
To have him close and show him grace.
I wonder if he thinks of me.

I’ll keep on looking down that road,
Will always long for his return.
My aching heart won’t give up hope,
To have him near, I’ll always yearn.


It looks like him, oh, can it be?
Must run to meet him down the road!
Oh, yes, my son is coming home -
Cry happy tears that flood my soul.

My dad runs toward me, his embrace
Is all I need to heal, feel whole.
His loving touch fills up my heart,
His grace just overwhelms my soul.

Have always loved this Bible story. Great show of perspective from father (our heavenly Father) and the son. Poem flows nicely...excellent writing.
