without beginning or end,
Voice of One, yet three in its essence,
a lilting tenor of wind
over bass booming thunderous and wild
by pure tones of the Word reconciled.
Oh Voice shaking all the foundations
of what was yet to be made
in harmonious, pure undulations
as base and ballast were laid.
Great I AM moves with tremulous sweep
chanting “Let there be…” into the deep.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, Almighty,
Who was and Who is and Who is to come!
Oh Composer of body and spirit
forged in the image of God,
so to honor God’s Word and to fear it
while ruling the beasts and sod,
orchestrating their care and provision
in sync with the Master Musician.
Oh Creator of holy acclaim
Who over creation stood,
poised to view Your work and proclaim,
“Behold, it is very good!”
then led morning stars in their singing
with shouts of glad angel choirs ringing.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, Almighty,
Who was and Who is and Who is to come!
Oh high, humorous Virtuoso,
Maker of rhythm and rhyme.
Who transcribes creature noises in scherzo,
varied in tempo and time;
then in cycles of life stays their course
by intrinsic, intuitive force.
Oh immanent sovereign Conductor,
Arranger of varied parts,
blending anthems and hymns in nature
to the trill of lover’s hearts.
Trees clap softly to meadowlark’s song
as a cadence of crickets plays on.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, Almighty,
Who was and Who is and Who is to come!
Oh Maestro of mercy and justice,
the sweetest duet by far,
born of flesh, yet holy and blameless,
now branded with Satan’s scar.
Yet the dirge became jubilation;
You rose, and proclaimed vindication.
Oh infinite, timeless Transposer
tuning each age to Your grace,
preparing to slay the imposer
and then to reveal Your face,
when our crowns at Your feet have been laid
and the great final movement is played.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, Almighty,
Who was and Who is and Who is to come!
