It had all been so perfect!
But that shimmering perfection didn't last.
No, they ruined it.
If only they hadn't made that choice--so impulsive, so willful, so foolish!
What a terrible day that was, the beginning of the end. His children had changed, and He knew it. The plan was still good; allowing them to choose for themselves to do right or to do wrong would remain in place. But, oh, the pain He felt then, the dark sorrow.
The lushness of the garden seemed the tiniest bit less vibrant, as if the plants themselves knew of the grievous burden that had been placed on the shoulders of mankind. Shame had entered the world, with all its pitch-black tendrils.
The fragranced breeze just wasn't the same, and the animals were hushed.
In the cool of the day, as He was walking, God put aside His own deep anguish over the sin to reach out to the fallen ones, calling, "Where are you?"
Of course, many other poor choices have followed, a chain reaching from the beginning of history to the end, link by link. All of His children have listened to that same voice, felt that same momentary urge, and have given in.
But He is out for a walk!
Even through His pain, He is still calling for you, calling for me, just as He did the very first time His children broke His heart.
As He did then, in the Garden of Eden, He continues to long for and look for the fallen ones today, calling, "Where are you?"
Answer Him.
