Carved out carefully from birth
I've named it and claimed it and
Entrance is by invitation only
This is my personal space
If I can touch you with my outstretched finger
If I can hear your whisper in my ear
If I can feel your breathe on my face
You are too close
You have perpetrated an act of war
And I entreat you to withdraw
This is my personal space
I am the ruler of this domain
I hold all rights to access
There are no public pathways
No ramblers, hikers or tourists
Be warned
Trespassers will be evicted.
This is my personal space
Every thought, every opinion
Carefully nurtured and protected
Every action, every reaction
Carefully weighed and measured
Permission will not be granted
To land your ideas
On the runway of my mind
This is my personal space
Smoke detectors are fitted with new batteries
Infra red lines crisscross my heart
The number to deactivate the alarm
Is well hidden and concealed
There's barbed wire
And glass shards
On top of all my walls
And the sound of barking is real
This is my personal space
And as I stand alone
I wonder
Why am I so alone?
