Let’s face it! When a doctor says, “Could I have a word?” and ushers you into a small side room, following his question with, “Please take a seat,” while bending forward like a conspirator, you have to wonder what will be next.
“You do realise don’t you that your husband is a very sick man.”
“Yes, I understand that but what’s the prognosis?”
“Well, I appreciate you have signed the DNR form, and I assure you that we will do all we can, but I have to say that you should prepare yourself.”
When I signed the paper some months ago to affirm that resuscitation would not be called for in the event of a major health hazard it was with the knowledge that though the time would come it would be according to the Lord’s will. Now it seemed that the time was approaching.
When did I leave a gap for the enemy to interfere, with his evil forces attempting a derailment? I try to keep short accounts so there are no unsettled claims that the enemy could use, but how could a miscalculation for a bus journey I needed be other than my fault. A further bus confusion was an irritation, then an irate taxi driver accusing me of losing him a longer fare when all I wanted was a ride to the nearby hospital, was almost the last straw. At the hospital, another patient needed help with no nurse nearby so once more into the breach... I am reminded of the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling.
Songs pf praise echo in my heart and I consider how wonderful it is to have the Blessed Assurance that Jesus is mine. I am grateful that He lifted us from sinking sand and set our feet upon a rock. He has called us by name; He knows when we sit and when we stand. He is our Shepherd and knows the plans He has for us. All our days are in His Book and nothing can separate us from His love. It is the Living Word that sustains and upholds; blessed be His glorious Name.
My husband’s favourite hymns were “He lives” and “Because He Lives.” A verse sings in my mind -
And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring and I don’t have to. It is sufficient to know He is in charge. I don’t know how I will react when my husband is born yet again into his new chapter of eternal life. I hope my reaction will not spoil my Christian testimony. And I trust I will continue to feel the peace that passes all understanding in the knowledge that we will meet again.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uplift you with my righteous right hand.
John 14:1-3. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you.I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me …

I hate to give constructive criticism because I sense you wrote this because you needed to. When I write about true events, everything is ingrained in my head and all feels so important. However, I've learned the reader doesn't need every detail that is important to me. I think some of this feels a bit disjointed because of that. The bus ride and no nurse is probably ingrained in your memory, but not necessarily helps move the story along.
With that said, your words still touched my heart. I've avoided my mom's grave for years, but today I'm going to venture out I think. July 4th was her favorite holiday and has been a hard day for me, yet your words have touched me so deeply. Instead of mourning her, I'm going to celebrate her life.
