Away with these thieves! They will be crucified with the madman who claims to be the Messiah.
THIEF #1
But I’m telling you! I am innocent.
TEMPLE GUARD #1
Come with me, you swine!
THIEF #2
Arrgh!
ANNAS
Who’s next? It’s been a long day again and all of us on the Sanhedrin High Court are tired.
TEMPLE GUARD #2
(reading from a scroll) Your majesty the High Priest, next we have one named Barabbas.
ANNAS
Bring the accused forward.
TEMPLE GUARD #2
Stand here.
BARABBAS
Grrrrrr.
TEMPLE GUARD # 2
Silence!
ANNAS
What are the charges in this case?
TEMPLE GUARD #2
Barabbas is accused of stealing from the Temple—
ANNAS
Ahhhh, yes, yes, yes! This is the man who saw Judas when he threw our generous payment of 30 pieces of silver back in to the Temple. “Blood money” Judas claimed, and in the shock of the moment, we left the money on the floor as we took a recess. When we returned from recess, the silver was missing.
TEMPLE GUARD #2
Yes sir: that is when we caught Barabbas running past the Temple. We have been watching this riotous criminal for a long time.
BARABBAS
But I did not have the silver because I did not steal it!
ANNAS AND TEMPLE GUARD #2
Silence!
TEMPLE GUARD #2
(slaps Barabbas’ face) You will speak only when directly addressed.
ANNAS
Barabbas, you are accused with 30 counts of thievery, one for each piece of missing silver. The law clearly states that thievery is punishable by death. However, it will take a unanimous vote of the Sanhedrin to confirm your punishment. If any one of us shows mercy, your punishment will be delayed. We will now vote on this matter. (As Annas looks at each member of the Sanhedrin, each man nods in agreement with the punishment).
TEMPLE GUARD #2
How says the Sanhedrin?
ANNAS
It is unanimous. Barabbas, you are accused of 30 counts of thievery and now sentenced with the punishment specified by The Law, which is death. Do you have any last words?
BARABBAS
I do, your majesty the High Priest. First, I want to state publicly for the record that while I am guilty many things, I am falsely accused in this case. As I have explained many times to your Temple goon, um, Guard here, I was running toward the Temple to get help for a friend whose child accidentally touched a leper.
ANNAS
But why were you caught running away from the Temple?
BARABBAS
As I approached the Temple, the Guards immediately chased me. As they chased me, then I ran away from the Temple.
ANNAS
Duly noted. Regardless, Barabbas, the Sanhedrin has voted, and our vote is final. There is no mercy, in this case. Guard: Lock him up until the Romans can dispose of him.
TEMPLE GUARD #2
Yes sir. Move!
ANNAS
Guard!
TEMPLE GUARD # 2
Sir!?
ANNAS
Lock him up with the madman who claims to be the Messiah.
TEMPLE GUARD # 2
Consider it done. Move!

JESUS
Here, my son, take this food. What is your name?
BARABBAS
My name is Barabbas. I was falsely accused of 30 counts of thievery and tossed into this prison. I am sentenced to die for my ‘crime’.
JESUS
If you could ask for one thing, what would it be?
BARABBAS
I would be free. Wait a minute, here. Aren’t you the one they call the Messiah?
JESUS
I am the way, the truth and the life. Go ahead and eat the rest of my food.
BARABBAS
Are you sure? I am starving after a long day with the trial and everything.
JESUS
I am sure. Why are you holding your left side?
BARABBAS
The Temple Guards were not very nice. I think I may have a broken rib or two.
JESUS
Give me your hand.
BARABBAS
Okay.
JESUS
Do you believe that I am He, the one who heals and delivers from sin?
BARABBAS
As much as I know and have heard about you, I believe. Help my unbelief.
JESUS
You are now made whole.
BARABBAS
What…? Wow. This is simply wonderful. Jesus you are Wonderful. Thank you!
JESUS
My time is coming soon. I will be brought before the Sanhedrin in an emergency court session.
BARABBAS
Those guys are merciless.
JESUS
All is happening as it was foreseen from the beginning. Barabbas, we will meet again: Mercy will come to your house.
BARABBAS
I believe You. Thank you Jesus.

Wouldn't a group of boys love giving a play like this before their parents.
It wouldn't take long to practice to be ready and they would understand more of the Bible stories.
A little extra work but nicely done.
