They’d fled an angry crowd, and now enjoyed nights balmy breeze
But soon those docile waters became convulsing waves
While Jesus slept, disciples feared they’d plunge to liquid graves--
Anxious shouts aroused the Lord, He shook His tired head
“Where’s your faith?” He asked viewing faces masked in dread
Regal powers commanded the forceful storm to cease
Still trembling in their sandals, each follower’s faith increased
based on Matthew 8:23-27
Now here’s another story, center stage--a great big fish
Jonah receives an assignment but God’s plan, he tries to ditch
He doesn’t go to Nineveh but to Tarshish he sets sail
The Lord then caused a violent storm to threaten and prevail
The sailors grew distraught when hearing Jonah disobeyed;
“Throw me to the sea, then God will take the storm away”
God’s power struck a chord within each sailor’s soul
As raging seas were silenced, a fish swallowed Jonah--whole
Inside its belly seaweed wrapped around his soggy head
Distressed, Jonah sank into a pit called “land of the dead”
Hope was lost but when he turned his thoughts back to the Lord
Prayerful repentance proved he’d taken up his sword
Released from Fish Prison, to Nineveh Jonah went
Delivering God’s message, that judgment would commence
The people then believed and changed their evil ways
So God held back destruction and they gave Him worthy praise
That’s the wrap up of this story and the message it conveys--
God shows tender mercy to sorry sinners who obey
based on the book of Jonah, chapters 1-3
It was a lonely place where Jesus hung and died
Spectators mocked till His last breath--Mother Mary cried
When the hand of God sent a storm, onlookers began quaking
A curtain tore, rocks were split as the earth gave way to shaking
Holy people long since buried were raised up from their tombs
Darkness covered all the land, crowds feared impending doom
Terrified at these events, a Roman and others exclaimed,
“Truly this was the Son of God!”--and the world’s never been the same
A quote from quivering lips, truer words were never spoken
Death has lost its power, forevermore its chains are broken
based on Matthew 27:51-54
