Stumbling through my season dry,
With fisted hands and angry words
Tears streaming, I screamed, “Why?”
Knowing that God loved me but
Feeling forsaken nonetheless,
Debts just kept on mounting
On the mountain of our mess.
One day while reading scripture
A passage made it clear,
God is my refuge and my strength
Whenever trouble should come near.
Then a measure of peace washed over me--and I exhaled
Generous doses of God’s love
Watered me while in my drought,
Over the years He showed me
“Necessities” I could live without.
As He did His reshaping to
My somewhat stubborn self,
I learned to trust completely
That He heard each cry for help.
Never will He leave us in
The dust of dead-end roads,
I learned how to surrender
Each overwhelming load.
Measures of humbleness softened me throughout this trial
It is truly for our benefit
That we don’t know each season’s length,
For that could bring discouragement
Which would rob us of our strengths.
Only God can open doors or
Shut them as He wills,
If by faith we walk with Him
Peace within us He instills.
I feel my drought is ending
Sunshine filters through my door,
Within the fire I’ve become
A better person than before.
God’s love is immeasurable, and I am grateful for my seasons.
