To see Him face to face—
No fancy tale or flimsy whim
A word that does not fade or dim
Nor scoffer can efface.
No warning sign or trumpet blare
Precedes the stealthy thief
But you must be on guard, aware
Lest he should catch you unprepared,
His coming cause you grief.
He also comes with fearsome signs!!
How can both things be true?
The only way these both align
God purposed by divine design
Not one descent but two.
First time He comes is to the sky
To catch away His bride;
The saints of ages raised on high
Bid tears and curse of death goodbye,
With Christ and God reside.
A time of trouble then ensues
For all those left behind,
Called ‘Jacob’s trouble’ by the Jews—
God’s judgement through the earth diffused
Poured out on all mankind.
And then He comes—all eyes will see,
With saints all dressed in white;
The King no longer absentee
On David’s throne by God’s decree
Will rule and judge aright.
This is no mystery unsealed
It’s detailed in His Book,
But unbelief has long concealed
This blessed truth by God revealed
To all who care to look.
Our blessed hope for which we yearn
The Lord our heart’s delight
At any moment might return
And in a twinkling we’ll be borne
To Heaven’s holy height.
Look up! Be watching eagerly,
No sign needs be fulfilled;
Perhaps tonight the Lord we’ll see
Will be transported instantly!!
My heart is strangely thrilled!!
