Taking minutes is an exercise in continuity. We link our accomplishments and plans to our stated purpose. We provide for the stability of our mission by reviewing the past, noting where we are at present and leaving a trail for those who come after us to follow. The work of generations stands on minute by minute construction of deeds and the words that capture them.
It’s a sobering thought, then, that God also takes minutes. A God who numbers the hairs on our heads is an exacting minute taker. Not a detail escapes His notice. He who knit us together in our mother’s womb has an eye for the minutiae of life that we cannot comprehend.
A Lord who records our names in the Book of Life concerns Himself with whether we are present or absent. Like the master who entrusts his servants with resources to care for his property while he is away, our God will expect a full report when He returns.
Not a minute goes unrecorded.
