Shhh, do you hear Him too?
I am deaf, but I can hear through my eyes. They see beyond the sounds of nature and sing of songs that are hidden deep in the bowels of the earth. They notice that which goes beyond the normal senses. Those who can hear - cannot perceive the sounds and those who speak - cannot sing its tune.
My eyes are my ears. They are the sight and sound of my soul. I can hear a baby’s cry from the tears that fall on soft tender cheeks. I can hear the barking dog by the set of his jaw. I hear the moans of people in pain by the look of grief in their eyes. I can hear the roar of the ocean by the crashing of the wave. I can hear the promises made and then broken by the sadness that strains a once happy face. I can hear the Fathers call to His faithful servants by the joy I see in their hearts. My eyes are my ears.
I am mute, but my eyes are my mouth. They gaze upon the tints and hues of the landscape before me and create for me word pictures that can verbalize my inner most thoughts. I can say I love you with a hug and a kiss. I can say I am happy by jumping up and down. I can say I agree - or do not with the shake or nod of my head. I can say I understand with a soft gentle smile. I can say prayers and confess my sin to God through tears and a bowed head. My eyes are my mouth.
I hear through the soul of my eyes, as they tell the true story and they hear words never spoken or realized by those who have such gifts. I speak through my eyes, as they are His windows into my life and all of the other life happening around me. One look at me and you will notice Him too, for His love speaks for me and through my silence - He is heard. . .
Shhh, do you hear Him too? In a little while, we can all go back to the everyday noises and sounds that keep us from seeing. But for now, enjoy His wonderful peace and observe with me all the things you can hear – in the beauty of His silence.
