The heather heath
A treasured artefact unearthed;
An open page
From bygone age,
The world declares of priceless worth.
The brown morass
Entombed the past,
A thousand years it stayed embalmed;
Is it blind chance,
Mere happenstance,
Digs up this ancient book of Psalms?
The words new-found,
All leather bound
Excite the learned far and wide;
The greatest find
Of modern times--!!
Though God and bible truth’s decried!
What irony!
These words they see,
Declare God’s lovely dwelling place--
From ‘neath brown sod,
A song to God
Which time and bog could not erase.
Men see the worth
Of psalms unearthed
In terms of academic gain,
Might scholars find
Through upturned lines
More than empty shadows vain?
From Fadden More
Psalm eighty four
Entombed more than a thousand years;
Brown peat-stained page,
Despite great age
Declares the truth to modern ears.
God’s Word’s great worth
Lies long unearthed
To fallow hearts of fallen men
His truth when found
Breaks hardened ground—
No artefact—God’s life within.
