Melt away, release their hold
Grasping hard, but crack instead
Losing to the light ahead.
Roof and windows slip at last
From prison bars of winter’s blast.
The last attempt of fading gloom
To mock the dream of sun lit room.
Shutters fly and welcome light
So force retreat of lonely night.
Bleak at first, then cloudless sky
Soothes the sting of winter’s try
Revealing then, a treasure found
Beneath the harsh and icy ground.
Waves of welcome cross the land
Gently stroke the sun kissed sand.
Warbled cries and wings now free
Sail the skies on friendly breeze.
Cold once great, must hide awhile
Swallowed up by summer’s smile
Hope fulfilled that winter’s done
Fleeing now from glowing sun.
Though it fought to break the will
Winter had its purpose still.
Vines were stripped, but roses grew
Drenched in tears, God’s gentle dew.
When truth does dawn, the season’s show
That summer comes, but first the snow.
