It’s said far and wide to all people meeting
In holiday time with folks of good cheer
With cards sent away and some to give near
In Africa “Rehus-Beal-Ledeats” is said
While “Feliz Navidad” in Spanish is read
It is said in Croatia: “Sretan Bozic”
Macedonian’s phrase: “Sreken Bozhik”
Though the saying is different, still it is true
That many are shouting it; more than a few
Yorubans say “E ku odun, e ku iye'dun!”
Yet Turks “Noeliniz Ve Yeni Yiliniz Kutlu Olsun”
All the world over the greetings are read
So many languages float in my head
Just as the Sami say: “Buorrit Juovllay”
The Iroquois muster: “Ojenyunyat osrasay”
No matter the saying the meaning is clear
In English we add and a Happy New Year
In Finland they wish us a “Hyvaa joulua”
And in Hawaiian: “Mele Kalikimaka”
In Iraqi: “Idah Saidan Wa Sanah Jadidah”
Although in Korean: “Sung Tan Chuk Ha”
And if you can get through this poem of mine
I’ll say Merry Christmas and end just in time!
