Would you have been surprised, along with shepherds in the field,
To see a brilliant light appear and angel hosts revealed?

Would you have been surprised to taste the water turned to wine,
That Jesus made to replace that which had not been as fine?

Would you have been surprised to hear the parables He taught
And realize the love He has when a lost sheep is sought?

Would you have been surprised to talk with one who had been dead,
Like Lazarus, who from the tomb, came forth as He had said?

Would you have been surprised to find the empty grave clothes there,
Where once our Master had been laid behind the stone with care?

Would you have been surprised to touch the nail prints in His hand,
Where Heíd been placed upon the cross at Governorís command?

Would you have been surprised that day, when looking to the sky,
To see the Lordís ascension there as He arose on high?

You should not surprised to know it was for you He died,
To take upon Him all your sins and give you joy, beside.

You need not be surprised today to know Heís there with you,
To comfort, guide, and help you, too, in everything you do.

Then let your heart be glad to know Heís coming back for you,
For every promise that He made is absolutely true.

Wonderful message. I especially liked "You need not be surprised today to know Heís there with you,
To comfort, guide, and help you, too, in everything you do."

This is just lovely - wonderful rhyme, meter, message - everything. I could hear this recited to middle elementary-aged kids.

The surprise that takes so many by surprise is how surprisingly simple it all is. Maybe that is why He asks us to look in childlike wonder.
Debbie Roome 09/17/07
We become so familiar with Bible truths that we lose the element of awe and surprise. This poem was a wonderful reminder of how incredible God is.
Julie Ruspoli09/17/07
