Mystery game nights too,
I seem to crave adventure
And my search is never through.
The roller coaster thrilled me
Just minutes, three or four
Then all too soon it ended
And left me wanting more.
The big game of Africa
Beckoned me to seek
But mosquito bites and sneaky snakes
Left me feeling weak.
The dinner/mystery theater
Ignited the Sherlock Holmes in me
It was fun while it lasted
Then I was back to being me.
One summer night while gazing
At the half moon in the sky
I was overwhelmed with emptiness
And I couldn’t figure why
The hard work invested in
My career was paying off
The friends I have are many
So at this I couldn’t scoff.
Why then am I feeling
As though I want to cry?
Is there a great adventure
That I have yet to try?
I laid me down to sleep that night
With dreams whirling in my mind,
I saw someone I used to know
But long ago had left behind.
His face was filled with kindness
His hands extended love
The peace and joy I felt with Him
Were gifts from heaven above.
In the early morning hour
I awakened with a start,
What was this feeling stirring
Deep within my empty heart.
I dusted off my Bible
As if led by His hand
And the passage that I read
Helped me clearly understand
The thrills of this world
Too soon will fade away
But the adventures for His kingdom
Will not lead my heart astray.
“Follow me,” He said
In my dream the other night
“I will lighten all your burdens
And help turn your wrongs to rights.
Now the morning light is peeking
Through the branches of the trees
And I’m at peace, ‘cause now I know
It’s Him I want to please.
