An unseen clan on Planet Earth,
With HOPE-ITS as its name,
Invades our minds most everyday
With wishes we might claim.

I cannot tell you where theyíre from,
Perhaps from outer space,
But I can tell you that they go
With speed from place to place.

These alien beings in our world
Are HOPE-ITS, good and bad.
If harm is hoped on anyone,
It makes that person sad.

These HOPE-ITS are found everywhere
To fuel our desires.
Iíve one thatís with me all the time;
He never sleeps or tires.

A HOPE-IT DOESNíT RAIN TONIGHT
Came calling out my name
Because my grandson took the field
For an important game.

A HOPE-IT WILL NOT BE TOO LATE
To send my entry in.
There is a prize thatís on the line
That I would like to win.

A gift Iím buying for my son
A HOPE-ITíS A SURPRISE
Because I love to see his face
With pleasure in his eyes.

When I serve dinner to my friends,
A HOPE-ITíS A SUCCESS;
A HOPE-ITíS NOT THE ROAST THAT BURNS.
Weíll wait and see, I guess.

Applying for a fellowship
To occupy my time.
If I should win a special one,
HOPE-ITíS A GUGGENHEIM.

Of all the HOPE-ITS that there are,
When all is said and done,
A HOPE-ITíS PLEASING TO THE LORD
Is quite my favorite one.

This is just delightful! It was fun to "catch on" to the fact that these alien beings are so well disguised that they're already in our midst and, unless a wonderful poet points them out to us, we could live a whole life and never know we've met one!

I cannot wait to find out if you are the poet I have in mind. Great job!

This is lovely! It flowed well and the rhyme was good. I liked the story and how you showed the different "hope-its" Very creative twist on sci-fi and quite enjoyable.

What a cute and fun poem, but with a great message, too! :) It seems a bit weak on topic, but I totally enjoyed it anyway! It would have worked for the Poetry genre, too, and I can't wait to see what you've come up with for that! :)

Very imaginative interpretation of the topic. The rhyme was good, and so was the read. Thanks for sharing this entertaining piece.
