Topic: Great (07/06/06)
The climb…
appears so steep,
seems insurmountable,
utterly impossible.

Trust Me, my child,
we’ll walk together.
I’ll lift you when you fall,
comfort you when you’re scared,
heal you when you’re hurting.

His words…
build my faith,
bring me to step out
and brighten my outlook of the venture.

The healing journey begins…
reveal anguish.
His light illuminates dark recesses of my heart,
His eminent grace envelopes my soul.
Reaching for His hand,
He pulls me up.
Share doubts, disappointments,
failures, fears.
His infinite mercy
penetrates my inner being.

The climb…
great beginning
and yet…
misgivings invade my thoughts.
My foot slips.

Trust Me, my child,
I love you.
I’ll lead you,
hold you,
heal you.

Confide…
confess…
remorse gives way to forgiveness,
with regret expressed,
restoration begins.

One secret remains…
prevents me from reaching the top.
Freedom within my grasp,
fear won’t let me reveal the pain.
Looking down at the valley,
not wanting to return,
but unconvinced I can continue the climb.
I can’t go either way.
With anxiety so great,
I’m paralyzed.

Trust Me, my child,
you’ve come so far.
I’ll help you the rest of the way.
Lean on Me and you will reach the top.
I have something magnificent waiting for you.

Reflections…
stumbling,
calls from the valley,
steep portions,
questions, doubts.
Reassurance
from the One whose love
is greater than this mountain,
reaches deeper than the despair in my soul.

In faith…
reach for His hand,
reveal hidden chambers of my heart,
tears falling, body trembling,
yet feeling cleansed, relieved -
receive His healing.

Look, my child,
you’ve made it to the top.
All that is here is for you to enjoy.
Take in the glorious view,
delight in My goodness,
bask in My love.

The climb…
worth every step,
stumble and struggle along the way.
Thankful to the One who led me,
as peace replaces panic,
faith overcomes my fear,
anxiety is extinguished with hope
and anguish gives way to healing,
Grateful to the One
who led my journey into joy.

Not being a fan of free verse or unrhymed poetry, I'm not in a position to critique - but I thought it a bit weak on the Topic. However, Thank you for sharing.

Yes, the great climb for great victory is a constant and great challenge in the Chistian's life! I love the beautiful assonance of the 11th stanza...the repeated 'ee' sounds really bring a beautiful melody to the lines! I love the poignant message in this heartsong poem!

I don't usually comment on poetry. I enjoy hearing the poet read their work. But, your voice was evident and clear. A very honest piece. I believe you wrote every vision God gave you in this poem. Good job and keep at it. God Bless!

Your verses took me back to an image of Pilgrim, newly saved, tackling his first hill. How hard it was, his feet slipped. All pilgrims come to the place where their foot slips. It seems so shameful. (Right, Peter?) but it is only in this set of circumstances that we see that even if we "let go" He still holds us safe. The slip teaches us not to trust the flesh, but in the one whose footsteps we follow. Your poem painted this amazing process with powerful (great) words. Thanks.

What a picture you paint of our hesitating trust and His great, unrelenting mercy! I was especially drawn to the stanza:
One secret remains…...
Freedom within my grasp,
...I’m paralyzed.
What tremendous freedom we experience when we just "let go and let God!" God bless your gift for putting words together for the Kingdom!
