Death. Many years ago, a Man had died on a cross meant for him. He hadn’t been a terribly wicked person but was guilty nonetheless. He was deserving of brutal death, but this Man took his place and paid the ransom for his life. From sixteen on, he was dedicated to serving this Man and telling others about His great love and mercy.
Life. Years of studying the Word, soaking in everything He could from it. Every day of his life had a purpose: to live for the Lord and spread His Good News to the world. Anyone he came into contact with had to know the loving Father and the Lamb of God. His life was always in service to the Kingdom of God and ushering people into it.
Sacrifice. He’d made many of what the world considered sacrifices throughout his life. He didn’t live according to the ways of the world or the people in it; he lived for God. He’d done his best every moment of every day to follow God’s law to the letter and hated even the appearance of sin.
Standing before this crowd, the Reverend took a moment to wait on the Lord for guidance. Speaking before the masses was a normal thing for him. It was part of his life’s work. But this crowd was different than the others.
This crowd was innumerable to him. He couldn’t even guess the number in attendance. Every one of them was smiling. It was as if they all knew him, though he couldn’t venture a guess at most of their names. Smiling back at them, he said hello. In a moment, they parted to make way for someone coming from behind the crowd. It was a Man dressed in white, glowing with a glow the Reverend had never seen before. The people bowed low when He came. The Man in white walked to the place where the Reverend was standing and smiled.
“Do you know who they are?” The Man in white asked.
“No, my Lord,” the Reverend replied as he fell to his knees. “But I know who You are. My Savior, Christ.”
The Man held out a hand and lifted the Reverend’s bowed head. “You have done well, my good and faithful servant. These are the ones in which you have sowed a seed and I have harvested. Now come, Billy. Receive your reward. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
