When you had to be number one,
You tarnished your spirit like dirt covered snow,
While thinking it was so much fun.
Your nose was lifted so very high,
You actually touched a cloud,
You laughed and laughed until you cried,
You were so better than the crowd.
Since you were a wee young tot,
You thought you were the best,
You were Johnny on the spot,
You played your cards very close to the vest.
Being number one made you oh, so cool,
Others simply didn't stand a chance,
You were better than they and no one’s fool,
Like a boastful pony, you danced to prance.
Over the years you gained much wealth,
You were the envy of your peers,
You ran the gauntlet hard, but it cost your health,
The once loud cheers were now a steady stream of tears.
Pride made you seek more and more wealth,
As you pushed harder, day after day,
Though the price was losing your health,
It was now the piper you had to pay.
One cold and clear winter night,
You had reached the end of your rope,
In total darkness, you saw a glimmering light,
Among the nothingness you now found hope.
The King of Kings reached out his hand,
He showed you an awesome way out,
He took your pride and made a stand,
A cleansing from the Lord made you laugh and shout.
