The last forkful of the rich dessert still lingered on his lips. Life was good. He looked across at his beautiful companion.
"Let's get out of here," Bill said through a belch.
"You're disgusting," She replied.
"Come on Janice. I'm just enjoying life."
"Yeah, yeah."
Bill threw his cash on the table and the two left with a flourish. Bill was a man of big appetites and the night was young. The food had been good, but not nearly enough. He spotted a street vendor and made a direct line. His eyes lit up at all the possibilities.
"Bill!" Janice screamed as she grabbed Bill's arm preventing him from walking out in front of a large truck.
Bill knocked the hand away in anger.
"What are you doing, Janice?"
"You almost got hit by that truck."
"What truck?"
"You didn't see the truck?"
"I saw the food cart. Now let me go."
Janice watched Bill with deep sadness. He returned with a pretzel in one hand and a hot dog in another. She could only think of him as a retch.
"I'm sorry, Bill. I can't do this anymore."
"What?"
"It is all just too much."
Janice turned and walked off. She walked a few steps, stopped, and turned back. She hoped that Bill would be following her or at least watching her. She looked, but all she saw was Bill devouring yet more food. It was truly pathetic. He was on a path to destruction and she could no longer enable it. There was so much more to life.
"Good-bye, Bill," She said before so sadly walking away.
Bill looked up from his delight. She would be back; they always were. He was a big man with big appetites. Life was good.
