The boys breathing was very shallow; his body convulsed. "Let me die," he mumbled as Buck shook him, "Nobody cares."
"That is not true; I care and God cares."
"Oh please God" Andy whispered as he suddenly became aware of the needle Buck held in his hand.
Buck stood up and stretched out his arms to allow the transformation to take place. "I put on the full armor of God." Buck spoke and instantly the individual pieces of armor began to surround his body. Within seconds Buck had transformed into the semblance of a knight wearing full, brightly polished, silver armor. A brilliant, red, Templar's cross marked both the Breastplate of Righteousness and the Shield of Faith. A crown of black, metal thorns protruded from the Helmet of Salvation. The Sword of the Spirit was three feet long, double edged, the hilt was adorned with twelve gems. The humans he defended saw the glory of God radiate from the armor; the demons he naked only saw God's wrath.
Through the visor of his helmet Buck was now able to see into the spiritual realm; the long, lanky demon was kneeling down next to Andy. "Silly boy," his raspy demon voice spoke gently, almost lovingly (as demons go) into the ear of his young assignment, "You have already gone too far; God cannot help you now. Let me take you to the one place you will be loved." With all their persuasive and supernatural powers demons still had to deal with free will.
"Demon," Buck yelled from across the lot; his about magnified his voice by a degree of ten. The demon turned quickly towards Buck; for the first time he was able to see the hideous face of the demon. It never ceased to amaze Buck that these creatures were once beautiful angels, the millennia and Hell had certainly taken their toll on this demon. "Step away from the boy. He is no longer yours."
"The Holy Knight?" the creature questioned; there was doing and concern in the voice of the demon. Tales of the Holy Knight swirled around the underworld, but these were just stories created by pathetic, young demons that had mysteriously lost their assignments to the enemy. He stood up and drew his bow firing for consecutive fiery arrows at the knight. The first pierced the armor of the Holy Knight in the left shoulder; the other three struck the Shield of Faith as Buck ducked down behind it. Demons were highly adept and very accurate with the bow as it was their primary weapon. "Let's see what you got!"
Crouched behind the Shield of Faith the Holy Knight began to advance towards his opponent. Sparks flashed from the swords as metal struck metal. Thrust, parry, strike; the two continued to trade blows; the knight's strikes severely injured the demon. The Holy Knight sidestepped the advancing demon and struck him in the back with his sword. The exhausted picked his self of the ground and lunged at the knight with his sword. Buck deflected his advance and thrust his sword into the midsection of the beast; a dark red, gelatinous substance, what demons would call blood, flowed from the wound.
Killing a demon was impossible for the Holy Knight; he was only able to to make demons submit and return to their lair. With The Sword of Truth at his throat the demon dropped his sword and placed his hand over his wound. "Yield demon!" the Holy Knight commanded. Without an argument and with a dim flicker of fire the demon had left the battlefield.
"Their bark is worse than their bite." Buck grinned at the amazed and confused Andy as he transformed back.
"You are one lucky young man; lucky you had a little faith left in you." Buck picked Andy up from the pile of trash to take him to the hospital. "Don't ever forget that God loves you Andy; never forget and you will be fine."
