"Oh my," she thought, " I believe there are expressions that describe the atmosphere in this room!" She heard no gasps but the air was suddenly still, as if no one was even breathing, and the facilitators face was strangely pinched and frozen.

This was her Church and her Sunday School Class and you would think she had accidently dropped the f bomb; but no, she had said the word, "Hell."

It was innocent enough, and it was said in response to a question asked by the facilitator: "Why do you make an effort to be a witness for Jesus?"

Since no one was responding she decided she would give her answer, and knowing that Jesus said that He had come to save sinners, and to open a path to the Father so that salvation could become a reality for those who would otherwise be consigned to Hell, she had then voiced that as her personal reason for making an effort to witness for Jesus; it was said in response to the question asked.

Quickly she was corrected by the facilitator saying that he was thinking more of the kind things we do like smiling at people, and praying for them when they ask it of us.

She responded nothing but thought, "How vanilla, in view of the truth."

It is not that those methods of witnessing are not important, they are; but the salvation of souls is the central reason for the death of Jesus. We were left with the commandment to take the Gospel, all of it, to the ends of the earth.

Mass death has not been our experience in today's society, with the exception of the World Trade Centers in New York. Recall how that brought forward the turning of thoughts to God in prayer, even on the steps of the Capitol Building, and not even the ACLU spoke against it, nor did the news casters, all were silent of any mention of the separation of Church and State.

Death is a reality and we all know it, and yet we prefer to pretend that it does not affect us. We simply can't allow ourselves to think upon it. In part this may be the result of each person's inner knowing that we do live forever, and we mistakenly apply that inner knowing of living forever to the physical self, and not to the inside person of the spirit, which never dies.

Since no one here was living here 200 years ago, we cannot help but know that death is an experience for all human beings. "It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that the judgment." Hebrews 9:27

Death is a feared thing. But Jesus' message to us was to be prepared for it, so that it would be nothing more than walking into another room.

Jesus did speak of both Heaven and Hell, and He warned about Hell more frequently than He mentioned Heaven.

Jesus seemed to think that Hell was more than just a smoldering trash heap outside the City; if it was no more than that, one could easily walk out of it. That is not the description given by Jesus. Matthew 10:28

We fear many things as we live our lives because we are vulnerable to diseases, and accidents, and emotional surprises of the hurtful kind; it is not unusual to be concerned about these things; but many of those things, and maybe none of those things will ever happen to us. However, at some point in time, death will happen to each of us.

The important issue is to prepare by accepting Jesus as our Savior, and believing in Him, and trusting Him that He will do what He promised to do many times in the Scriptures, such as He did to Nicodemus. John 3: 5 - 21

"The Judgment" does not have to mean something negative to us. We will be judged also for the good we have done, and the ultimate judgment is whether we have asked Jesus to come into our lives and have then followed in His steps, and have lived our lives according to His commands.

The doing of that action is called our Salvation and there is no Hell awaiting anyone who is trusting in Jesus to save them.

Hell is not a place to go; Hell is a place to avoid, and Jesus came to provide us the Way to get to Heaven, and to stay out of Hell.
