Beneath the pillar of cloud, he raises his eyes to the heavens
Shaken, nervous for such great responsibility;
He lifts his hands up to the heavens praying, praising,
Beseeching, imploring.
“Sh’ma , O Yisrael,
Adonai Eloheinu
Adonai Echad”
He gazes at our solemn assembly pleading, “Have mercy, Abba. Save us.”
He holds the bull’s head
Drags it into the courtyard.
In the Tent of Meeting
The blood sacrifice for our transgressions.
No turning back. No looking back.
We have transgressed.
The Presence of awe have come to visit us.
“Only one LORD, cleanse us"
"We implore You.”
“Save us!”
We wait.
We wait.
Aaron scoops up water in the laver. Water into his bare hands
Refreshing water cleansing him from head to toe
before the Presence in the Holy Place, lest he dies.
We wait.
We pray.
Breathtaking anticipation.
May he live!
We pray.
Our Kohen Gadol. Our Priest implores HaShem for His atoning for sin
of the Yisrael and the sin of the nations.
In the Holy Place, there stands Aaron adorned without abating
He puts on a vestment of blue. A long robe reaching to his bare feet
Girdle ties round with embroidered, woven of linen purple, blue and gold.
I will, one day, be Aaron’s helper in the Tabernacle.
To be a priest, I will wait.
The robe.
The golden bells woven all around the hem of his robe.
The ephod, and the breastplate,
Aaron girds himself with the woven girdle of the ephod.
The miter upon his head, and the holy crown upon the miter.
Then the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.
Aaron, dressed in unmatched splendour, in garments for glory and beauty,
We can’t see him now. He’s hidden from view.
But O, how we pulled our breath in;
I close my eyes. A tear comes flowing.
We pray.
We beseech the Almighty, “Save us. Save us!”
We then, dare not speak. We want to hear
The golden sound of tinkling bells.
There!
The golden sound of mercy, the golden bells are tinkling!
We’ve been waiting to hear
The shaking of Aaron’s garments-- at the time of his offering
Incense in the Presence
Ting-a-ling. Ting-a-ling
Glorious chiming.
Gracious assurance.
Life in the Presence!
Chiming golden bells.
How we’ve longed for the golden sound!
We fall on our knees. Beating our breast. We beat so hard. We fall on our faces
“O, Yahweh, save us!”
“Save us!”
We jointly implore with Aaron.
Stillness and silence
There it is again.
The golden bells tingling, ringing!
Aaron is moving about. He lights the Menorah. We can’t see him.
But we hear him.
Ting-a ling. Ting-a-ling
“O, gracious LORD, You have not left us.”
“You have given us a glimpse of the Shekinah within Your Presence”
The deafening silence out in the gentle gust of wind.
The chiming golden bells.
The golden bells tinkling within the Holy Place before the Presence
Our Kohen is alive in the Presence
He will return to us in a little while.
Praise You, Elohiym
You have heard Aaron’s prayers.
You have heard and has forgiven us.
Great High Priest that is passed into the heavens,
HalleluYah!
Amen!
