One of the sweetest sounds I enjoy is the sound of the click of my camera. The camera records images that can be stored directly, transmitted to another location, or both. Some form of a camera has existed since around the 5th century. A Chinese philosopher Mo Ti noted that pinhole can form an inverted and focused image. The first permanent photograph of a camera image was made in 1826 by Joseph Nicephore Niepce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris. As photography grew, Matthew Brady was instrumental in capturing the Civil War. Eventually, George Eastman, turned photography into a profitable business for himself and others. When it came to black and white images, no one could touch Ansel Adams.
Cameras deal with capturing the image, use of lenses, focusing techniques, exposure control, shutters, and other accessories. The camera has the unique ability to record the image and memory of the event forever.
When I was about six years old, my parents gave me a box camera. Along with improved photography skills, I've moved from the point and shoot to the digital SLR. I've seen my images in film, slides and disks. Each time I press the shutter button, I record previous moments that Ican relive.
Photography has made me an avid walker, hiker, and lover of the outdoors. The sound of the click takes me away from myself and into a spiritual relationship with God and His creation. It opens my eyes and allows my heart and soul to see all that He has created and "made beautiful in His time." Dewitt Jones, a professional photographer, said, "God gave me photography so I could pray with my eyes." I echo his words with each click.
